KARMYOGINI

It’s a recently started initiative that began with post-COVID trauma faced by a large number of tribal girls in their reverse migration. They faced so many difficulties way back that they were terrified. They say they could not even get a sanitary pad on their way back as all shops and doors were closed.

Spandan Samaj Seva Samiti has been working in their community on Food & Nutrition Security and it was a new challenge posed. challenge posed. Rounds of meetings and brainstorming sessions were facilitated to help find alternative livelihood options. During these deliberations, some girls recounted that they had seen in the city that many women work on what we think is men’s work. The idea seemed to be suiting and some girls decided to take up motorcycle and mobile repairs that they couldmanage from their homes and make a living.

The idea was realized with 25 girls came forward to learn the motorcycle and mobile repairs and set up their workshops at home. Two of them decided to set up a garage in a nearby town. They received rounds of training and gradually gained skills and confidence. The organization's support was to provide them with basic repair gadgets and spares to begin their enterprise.

The initiative began to gain popularity and media houses like BBC, AajTak, Star TV, and more covered their stories along with print media. The local MLA too was impressed and promised to assist the girls. Some girls received cash support to step up the enterprise while two girls got land permission and support from Panchayat to set up their first-ever women's garage in the district.

More girls came forward and the initiative was christened– Karmyogini(the hard-working women entrepreneurs).

We have conducted 08 rounds of training and nearly 50 young tribal girls and nearly 30 of them are doing excellent work – making a significant contribution to family income that ensures food and nutrition security.

We are trying to upgrade their skill and bust the social misconception that men alone can do it. These girls by their sincere work are breaking a stereotype by entering into an occupation thought to be in the male domain alone.

We need advanced tools for these girls to help them work more efficiently and set precedence for other girlshas got wings- .

Under the leadership of Seema Prakash – the Founder, this initiative has got wings and girls are dreaming, are self-confident, and above all have received succour from distressed migration.
